Cradle Russia Holiday Party

Nearly 100 adults and children came together on Saturday, January 9, 2010 for the seventh annual Russia Holiday Party, a festive celebration of the Russian Christmas.  

For the third year, our party was held at LaMirage Restaurant in Rolling Meadows.  Guests enjoyed a hearty Russian buffet that included smoked salmon, beef stroganoff, chicken fingers, pizza, sweet cheese blini and pelmeni, traditional Ukrainian dumplings.

The kids had a great time playing games for fun prizes, getting their faces painted and arms tattooed, and trying their skills at Russian dance with members of Ethnic Dance Chicago.  A highlight of the party is always a visit from Grandfather Frost.   This year, he gave each of his young visitors a book of their choice, generously donated to The Cradle by Barnes & Noble in Evanston. 

We extend a special thanks to Faina Reznikov for lending us Grandfather Frost’s costume, and to the Russian Gifts and Collectibles store in Vernon Hills for donating goodie bags filled with Russian candies.   

The Russia Holiday Party is a wonderful opportunity for Cradle families who adopted children from the Russian Federation or former Soviet republics to reconnect with one another and to share their joy.  We hope you will join us next year!
